Not quite.

I am scared. I am anxious. I am nervous. I just want to get to the next step. I am going to be a little open here about my emotions. This is all in regards to waiting for a response for Michael’s Early Intervention appointment. I have already contacted our local program and have a received a letter stating that I have been given a therapist. So why am I anxious and such? That letter was sent over a month ago and the letter stated that I should receive another letter with information regarding an appointment—two weeks after the first letter.

I took action today and I called the therapist directly yesterday, but didn’t catch her at work. So, I called today and left a message early this morning. I haven’t been called back. I’ve already talked to his doctor, but Michael’s update appointment is in May. Seems too far for me. I really want to get this ball rolling and it’s so hard to do so when you are stuck in limbo.

I look at Michael and just observe his actions. I jot down little notes every day about his interactions with us. Does he listen? Not quite. Does he repeat words? Not quite. Is he learning new words? Not quite. Everything is not quite.  He has even regressed with eating. He was doing such an awesome job with self feeding with utensils but now all he wants to use are his hands. He throws tantrums when he gets frustrated. He grunts instead of telling me what he needs. He needs help. We need help.

I feel pretty!

I’ve been feeling somewhat down in the dumps about my having recently turned 32 and my looks. I’ve noticed that age is somewhat catching up to me. No, not grey hairs yet, but dark circles and bags are inevitably there. My husband has assured me that I the years have been gracious to me and I need not worry about those pesky candles on my cake. Bah! I’ve said time and time again. It’s sort of like when you keep hearing how pretty you are from your parents—it doesn’t quite count, right? It’s not like when you were a teen and a cute boy says you are pretty. When those close to you say it, it somewhat feels biased. Am I right?

But…

This past weekend I got that little lift I needed. I was at the grocery store doing what we all do at the grocery store when…

"No way! You have a baby?! Aren't you just turning like 20?!"
I was in the baby aisle and picking some items up for my toddler. I laughed and said, "Sir, I am 32 years old and have a toddler. But thank you for the compliment." I walk away with blushing cheeks to my husband and my son who were waiting for me on the other end of the aisle. My husband asked why I was blushing and I told him what happened. Not long after, we run into the same guy. He asked my husband if I was indeed 32, my husband confirmed.

So I got a pick me up. It was definitely what I needed. Which got me thinking, maybe I can make someone’s day by complimenting them. Be it a stranger or someone I know. Pay it forward I say :)

Groupons + Roller Skating + Stitches = Coolest Date Ever!

rollerskating3Ever see a movie and love it? Ever have a favorite scene and want to recreate it? Well that favorite movie is “Rocky.” And that favorite scene is the one where Rocky Balboa take Adrienne out on a date to an ice skating rink. Since my husband is a huge boxing fan, Rocky is one of his favorite love stories (yep, it’s a love story.) Plus he also wanted to recreate that infamous date scene, but since we are in the middle of summer, ice rinks don’t exist around here. The alternative? Roller Skating!!

Stevan had received a Groupon deal for roller skating for two with sodas and pizza. Perfect! Right? So he buys the offer and pins it on our board (we have a board where we write notes to each other.) I see the offer the next day and think “Awe! What a sweetie!” Plans are set for this past Sunday and he also took time to find a sitter! Husband of the year!! So off we go to a roller skating date…

Let’s go back a few years (like two decades or so. Ha!) and let me point out that I used to rollerblade when rollerblading was AWESOME DUDE! I loved it! I even rollerbladed a bit in my teen years in the mid-late 90’s. So I guess it’s safe to say, I’m ready for the roller derbies. Ha ha! Now that I pointed that out, let’s get back to our date….

Stevan was scared of letting go of the wall for fear of falling. I gave him some confidence by telling him to just do a little at a time. Before you know it, he was letting go. Now, twenty minutes into our date and a disco set later, I bit it. I hit the floor bad! After falling flat on my face (yes my face!) I got up and began skating again. Stevan headed back towards me (he was ahead of me) and by that time, I discovered blood gushing down from my chin. Surely I had scraped myself. I headed to the bathroom to clean up and that’s when I found I had split open my chin. Bone was peaking through. Off to Urgent Care we went and three stitches later—Coolest Date ever!

Good bye long hair, hello short!

There are waves of changes coming through in our lives. We are moving this week, so that will explain why I’ve been MIA here and there and why I will be, we no longer have a baby but a toddler, I changed my “look” from long hair to a short long A-line bob, and much more. It’s all new and different and we are so excited! Aside from it all being new and different, it’s also a fresh start. I guess that’s why Spring is so important, it’s a fresh start from the drab and dreary. I like it!

So without further adieu, I present to you the “new” me.

It’s been about 7 years since the last time I ever cut my hair from “Keep the length and do all over layers” to something this drastic. I really like it since that means no more tired arms when blow-drying and sweaty necks from the heat. Whatcha think?

Photo dump

Earlier today I decided that it would be fun to have a mini "photo shoot" session with my little monkey. Enjoy!

and my personal favorite....

We are back!

It's been well over a month since I last posted in here. Obviously by now I have had our son--he's doing great! He will be a month old on Wednesday the 4th of May and we still can't believe that he's already grown up so much in the past few weeks.

His name is Michael Anthony. He was born on April 04th, 2011 at 10:42pm (Monday.) He weighed 5lbs and 13 oz, and was 19 and 3/4 inches inches long. He will be a month next week, and that is incredibly crazy to us. Right now he weighs 7lbs and is 20 inches long. He eats, sleeps, and poops all day long, with some "talk" and "tummy" time in between naps. He hates having his diaper changed and has peed on his parents a few too many times. Michael has his fussy moments, especially when he doesn't quite nap at all during the day, but this just means mommy will have a better night's sleep. He already has had two doctor's appointments and will have his vaccines in June--we are not looking forward to this.

As for myself, I am back to my pre-pregnancy clothes. I have lost most of my pregnancy weight with only 6-7.5 pounds still lingering behind. Actually, I'd prefer if those extra pounds stay, it would help me feel a bit curvier. My recovery has gone smoothly and haven't had any pain since week two. "Mommyhood" has been great and I am learning so many new things about myself, like how patient I can really be. Labor and delivery were quick and swift, he was here within 30 minutes of pushing.
