I was sent home

I was sent home from work yesterday. No, not from misconduct or because I was fire--I've been feeling rather sick the past two days. So once lunch time hit, home I went, well first to pick up Michael from my mom's and then go home. I am so glad that once we finally got home that Michael took a nap--this way I could too (who doesn't love a two hour nap?!) Although yesterday I felt a wee bit better but I still went home. I think it was my lack of sleep the last two weeks from Michael being sick that caused me getting sick too in the end. That picture up there is a glimpse of my drive home. The one below? Jambi, my Jack Russell Yorkie Mix, giving Mama extra love because I wasn't feeling well.

Is he not the cutest?!

Midnight runs to the ER

Every where on the news we have heard that this Winter's Flu is a strong one. Advisories are every where for wee ones, pregnant women, and the elderly to get the flu shot. Unfortunately, the flu shot isn't quite helpful with all the different strains of flu that are floating around. This is all so true for us.

Last night at about 10pm we ended up taking Michael to the emergency room. He had been sick for only a few days and ever since Tuesday, his fever would not let up. It came back each and every time clinging on to my little boy. 102.8 read our thermometer. We decided to call the advice nurse and she, like most, advised us to check the following:

-Fever higher than 101? Check!
-Flushed cheeks? Check!
-Not taking any liquids? Check!
-Dry diapers? Check!

So in we went. Poor little guy was not having it. It broke our hearts to see him getting poked and prodded. The staff at UC Davis Medical Center were really great. They attended to him as if he were the only one there. They brought him juice in his own sippy cup, toys for him to keep and play. They even put in some dvds (Berenstein Bears!) for him to perk up a bit. Although he wasn't having it, it was nice to feel the support. After four hours of being at the hospital we were sent home. They wanted to make sure that he had taken in all of the IV fluid. Which he did, slowly but surely he did. Time to sleep!

Once at home, and after tucking Michael in, we get a phone call from the UC Davis staff. His white blood cells were abnormally high and he needed to come in ASAP. We told him that we just tucked him in but that if it was urgent we would. They said to let him sleep if he was already in bed since he needs that sleep but to come in at 9am. Surely at nine in the morning, we were there. Just as quickly as the morning sun rose, we were whisked inside. They took his vitals once more and set him up. Again the hospitality was rather welcoming. After giving us the details of his lab tests, we waited for the antibiotics to help his blood cells fight the infection he had inside.

Now we are home and will start the routine of Motrin and Tylenol until Monday's follow up appointment. My Michael. My dear sweet little boy, I hope you start to feel better and start to be your Michael self again. I don't regret taking you in to the ER despite the many hours of sleep lost. It's all "por tu bien." (All for your own good.)

I have a bug.

I have to apologize for being M.I.A. We just finished moving and for some reason, the “Welcome Home” gods have given us as a house warming gift, the cold. Oh how fun. So for now, you get my apologizes and an “I’ll be back!”

Review: Vapor Raz Raz Baby

RazBaby Vapor Raz Clip & Pacifier Holder

(It comes with two pads that release the calming scent of Eucalyptus & Menthol. All you do is add the pad and clip it on baby’s clothes. The clip has a strap for a pacifier if your baby uses one. Each aromatic pad lasts up to 8 hours!)

Michael is sick. Actually we both are. Steve is the only one immune to whatever bugs have been going around lately, which is okay since he is the one who has to go to work every day.  Michael has been coughing and is quite congested which means that this mama doesn’t sleep well either at night. The humidifier is doing a decent job, but we thought he needed more “help” with his congestion (no sleep for Michael or I these past two nights.) I had noticed the RazBaby Raz Clip earlier last week and thought, “Huh! That sounds like a good idea! Maybe we’ll try that out next time Michael gets sicks.” Lo-and –behold, he did earlier this week. I kinda blame it on being outside all day Saturday at a birthday party when the weather was yucky outside. Back to the RazBaby. Tonight is the first night of us using it and am hoping that it helps with Michaels breathing, hopefully this and the humidifier do wonders tonight.  So wish us luck tonight and plenty of Zzzs! I’ll add a wee little update to how our night went with the RazBaby.

Here are more details to the RazBaby Vapor Raz--

It’s 100% safe and effective and easy to use.

Refills to the pads are also available (our local Walgreens sells 4 refill pads for $5.99)

So we tried it for two days and two nights. I have to say that this works pretty well. It kept all of his mucus away while he wore it. I love the fact that it’s not so gooey and messy like the stuff from the jar. Plus it’s portable! I’ll definitely be using this again if/when we need it.

I hate being sick.

These past few days Michael has been a sniffling, congested, fussy little baby. The nights are the worse. He cries for everything because he feels like he can't breathe. He'll drink from his bottle only to throw a tantrum seconds later because of his nose. I'll lay him down for a "middle of the night diaper change", and yet another tantrum ensues. Nights are horrible when he is asleep. To top it all off, Steve is sick too. He was the one who actually gave Michael whatever he has, but Michael seems to be the one suffering--until last night.

Last night was my turn. I had a headache the night before but it was light enough to bare. Now last night, while we had our friends over for some pizza and beer (I don't drink beer--patooey!) my light bearable headache turned into an almost migraine. I could not stand loud noises and the lights were getting to me. I excused my self during the middle of our pizza dinner and crawled into bed. Luckily Michael was already in bed by this time since he needed to rest to fight whatever virus we all had caught. Once in bed, nothing not even the 3 layers I had on of blankets (they are thin) and the thick comforter could keep me warm. Steve came in to check on me and added another blanket. It did the trick. After he kissed me good-night and wished me a better nights sleep, he left to entertain our guests. It wasn't even 5 minutes later when I started to cough. Not just cough, but that annoying cough where you feel your whole body vibrate and it doesn't stop. Yep, that one. But it brought a friend--vomit. Oh my goodness! As soon as I let out the cough, my dinner came with it. All over my pillow and bed. I was sick. Definitely. I called for Steve and he came in to help me clean up. He even checked to see how I was temperature wise--light fever. I guess everything decided to just happen to me all last night. This was not fun. Luckily, this morning I feel great. No headache, no nausea, no dizziness, nothing--as of nothing happened. Which is great since I need to care for a sniffling, congested, fussy little baby.
