Midweek Confessions

I love this series. You can always vent when you need to or if you are out of blog post options, this is a great alternative too.

-Michael caught the Pink Eye. First week at school and he already caught whatever has been going around. This isn't fun when he already has a cold. Poor guy. Earlier last week he had a stomach virus. Worst week ever!

-I've decided that while I go to work, my hair will be "heat free." Let's see how long this trend lasts. I figure if it will give me an extra 30 minutes to snooze and all I need for my hair is just a pony tail elastic, it should be a Win/Win situation. No? Plus it's been like 111* degrees out here in Sacramento.

-I'm blaming the heat for all of the non cooking lately. All of our favorite dishes require me standing next to the flame. I do not want.

- My fuel gauge this morning said "Low fuel." Okay, I have enough to get to work and I will fill it up during my lunch or after work. On my drive to work, the computer's mileage range kept creeping up instead of going down to zero. This freaked me out! I'm praying during my entire commute that I don't get stranded on the freeway. Thank goodness I made it! Definitely getting gas during my lunch (no pun intended here.)

Blog Every Day in May

I just signed up for Blog Every Day in May with Rosalilium.
Instructions are as follows:
Introduce yourself or sum yourself up in just 5 lines. Include a photograph that you are proud of.

 1. I'm a Scorpio. In case you follow the stars.
2. I do not like peanut butter, most cheeses, and nuts. Wha?!
3. I met Maynard James Keenan from Tool, our favorite band.
4. I am obsessed with Law & Order: SVU and Roseanne. If it's on, it's on all day at my house.
5. I have two birthdays. The day of my actual birth and the one on my birth certificate. We do both.

The Facts of Me.

helloworld
I decided to link up with Whitney today from I Wear Yoga Pants. The link up is about posting fun facts about you. So sure, why not?

  • I have brown eyes. Well, they have a hint of red to it. More like an amber color. I like it since everyone I know or is in my family has those dark chocolate eyes.
  • I’m a nail biter. Well recovering. As a kid, I grew up biting my digits. Nasty habit, I know. But now that I am a mommy, I used my will power and have grown them out. Now I am dabbling in nail polishes. It’s so much fun!

  • When I find a show on tv, I fall in deep. I start to have love-hate relationships with the characters and even get sad over a show’s end.

  • I wear socks to bed. Yes. Socks to bed. My feet are always cold. Therefore causing my entire body to be cold. I end up with back aches during winter because of how shaky I am due to it’s freezing weather. There went my dream (or my husband’s) of ever wearing silky night gowns to bed. And this is on top of the two + blankets we have on as well.

  • I have two birthdays. Ever mention that? I have my real birthday and the one that is on my birth certificate. Yes, I do demand gifts to both. No I don’t age twice as much.

  • I love the 90’s. I seriously miss it oh so much! I even am addicted to the shows from my younger years. Rosanne is on my tv 24/7 and I swear there are a few episodes that I haven’t seen. I must watch it from beginning to end in order for me to stop watching said show. Right now, I’m watching A Different World. Ha!

  • I always tell everyone that I am a tomboy. I grew up with three boys and had no sisters. Truth is, I am as girly as they come. Make-up and all….plus the occasional kickball game or dodge-ball.

  • I hold grudges. It’s not fun. But it takes a lot for me to hold a grudge.

  • I hate my hair. Everyone always compliments it and is telling me how “perfect” it is. That’s because I spend a long time blow drying and taming that frizzy mane. It’s terrible. One of these days I will have to post a picture of what it looks like sans heat.

30 Day Mom Challenge.

I was invited to join in on a 30 day challenge. Since I joined today, I have to start with number 17. Kind of late in the game right, STORY OF MY LIFE! I tell ya!

[17] Laugh with your child.

Easy right?

picnicday2

How can I not with this guy. In fact, he always makes me laugh. I don’t think there has been a day where we don’t laugh. Whether it’s him teasing me (after I sneeze he makes fun of me) or when I do something (he says, “Aye No!/Oh No!” like “Not again”.) Something is always making us laugh.

30 Day Mom Challenge @ Glorious Imperfection

October Photo Challenge.

Remember how back in May I did this challenge? I miss it. No, really I do. It actually helped give me that extra push to take pictures, something I am lacking as of late. Plus with the new holidays coming around and all new festive celebrations (I *heart* fall!) I should document at least something, right? Especially with having a toddler, every day is a new adventure photograph waiting to happen. So yes, I’m back on that wagon but I won’t bombard you with the pictures. All of them will be right here, all in one place. If you want to join, here’s the list for Today, October 1st—Have fun!

Photo taken from: FatMumSlim

How to play

1. Look at the list each day, and discover the daily prompt.
2. Grab your camera – your phone or another camera – and take a photo using the daily prompt as inspiration.
3. Upload your photo to where ever you like: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, your blog or anywhere you please. {If sharing on Twitter or Instagram add the hashtag #FMSphotoaday}

Where to share

Once you’ve taken your photos the fun is in sharing them. So you can share them in one place, or a few – it’s up to you. Here’s how share them:

Facebook
There are a few ways you could share on Facebook. You could create an album on your personal page, upload the list and share the photos every day. It’s a fun way to share with your friends. You can also upload to my wall on my Facebook page. Other options are creating a group with your friends, uploading to your own page {if you have one} or joining the October photo a day event.

Twitter
Upload your photo to Twitter and share a bit about it along with the hashtag #FMSphotoaday. Get social and tweet with the other photo a day players.

Instagram
This is my favourite place to share. Take your photo, add a filter, write a little about in the caption and add the hashtag #FMSphotoaday. Best of all, when you publish your photo, you can also publish to your Facebook page, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr. So all the work is done for you. I’m @fatmumslim on Instagram.

Flickr
You can share your photos in the Photo A Day Flickr group. Join it here.

Tumblr + Blogs
Upload and share on your Tumblr and Blogs as you please. I’ll upload to my blog in one looooong post at the end of the month.

Random Thursdays: First Celebrity Crushes. <3

This one looks like so much fun guys!! I had to do this one. Ever since I could remember, my teenage years consisted of celebrity crushes. heck! Even know I swoon over a few heartthrobs out there, and yes the hubs laughs at me when I gush over them publicly. Ha ha! So I decided to join the link up (and I really want to see/read what yours are/were too!) with Lin, Em, and Sarah.

So let’s gush, shall we?!

randomthursdays-celebs

Enrique Iglesias: He was the first. Well, not technically because I did swoon over others, but he’s what started that “fan obsession” people talk about. I had a whole wall in my room dedicated to him. Posters, magazine snippets, swooning over his songs on the radio, and I even "watched” a novela (even though I hated novelas back then) just to hear and see him sing the intro. Seriously dude, it was THAT BAD!

I even got kind of excited when he started to date “Ana Kournikova” just to hear him say, “Ana.” He was my first concert ever you know.

John Stamos: When I was little, I longed to be one of the girls on that show. Then I realized that then it would mean that I would be his niece. No way Jose! That was “ewe central!” I still swoon over the show and when they he sings. :: Sigh::

 Mark Paul Gosslar:  I loved Saved By The Bell. It was my go to show every day after school and on weekends. He was the ultimate California Dude for this California Dudette (I’m dating my self with the slang, aren’t I?) I so wanted to be Kelly Kapowski so I could kiss him. While everyone else talked about Slater’s muscles, Preppy’s blue eyes and grin were what made my heart pitter-patter. He still looks yummy today.

 Antonio Sabato Jr. : I didn’t know much about him. I really don’t. Just that he was and still is a sexy beast. Rawr!

 Luke Perry: 90210’s Bad Boy. The one who had the guitar play when ever Dylan was mentioned. Yes, we all dreamed about being Kelly (I was a Brenda Fan and still am, but face it, Kelly was the one who there throughout the WHOLE Show.) He was Mr. Suave and I just wanted to be his Mrs. Oh Mr. Perry, I still watch the re-runs of the show, just for you. Yes, only for you.

Quarterly Top 5

On Wednesdays I like to do some sort of link up, so I thought I would do two. This one I got from Erica over at Mi Todo blog. I fell in love with her blog and I think you should head on over and read it. Her link up is from: Amber @ ClickPrayLove.com | Ashley @ Ramblings & Photos | Sarah @ SarahHalstead.com.

The link-up is about posting your top five favorite pictures of your children since June. This one is going to be a tough one!

4thofJuly2012-2

This picture was taken on the Fourth of July. It’s of my dad, my nephew on his lap, and of Michael. I love this picture so much.

07042012-michael

Another Fourth of July photo. He was looking at me and kept saying, “Chez!” (cheese.)
You can see his split lip from when he fell.

BisGranddad2

Another favorite! This one is of my own grandfather. I love this one because this way I have a memory for him of his meeting his Great Grandfather. Something both my husband and I don’t have. (August)

HuntBeach5

This one is of Michael at the beach. His first time. He loved it. We are going back next year. (Sept)

picnicday2

I love this one because it’s a recent on of his face. His face has changed so much. Taken the same day with my grandfather. (August)

He said | She said. The Newlywed Game

I had been reading my blog list the other day and I ran into Brunch with Amber's post. It's a newly wed game. Obviously we are no longer newly weds. We aren't pros either, so we are just "a married couple," ha ha! So I decided to play along and ask Steve the questions. I answered them too. It was fun.

1) What do you think my best quality is?

He said: Funny. I love that!

I said: Strength (mind you he thought I meant physically. lol) I know you are strong physically, but emotionally, you hold me together.

2) What would your ideal date with me be?

He said: A picnic at a park. We’ve only done that once.

I said:  Dinner at home (take out or homemade), pillows and blankets on the floor, and us watching a movie.

3) What was your first impression of me?

He said: Hyper. You were all over the place!

I said: Tall. I knew you were tall, but wow! You are really tall!

4) What is your favorite memory of us?

He said: Our wedding. That day will always be my favorite.

I said: The day we went kite-flying. We had not taken our allergy pills and the grass was knee high. A bad combo. Although it was terrible that day, it’s a nice laugh now.

5) What do you see for us in the future?

He said: A big family in our own home.

I said: A big family in our own home.

I love this man!

I mushed my Amish Friendship Bread!

I’m on my second batch…

About two weeks ago, my dear sweet friend Christy offered me some Amish Friendship bread. She handed me the yeast baby with a set of instructions, “ Day 1— do nothing. Day 2- Mush bag. Day 3- Mush bag….etc.” At first it felt like it would be a chore to do, but I still said I would try. After mushing for a few days, I started to become somewhat excited. I was eager to bake this little yeast baby into some wonderful sourdough-cinnamon-10-day-goodness! What? 10 days? Yes, it takes about 10 days for your yeast baby to become just mush from a plastic gallon bag to a wonderful, house smelling with cinnamon goodness bread. My husband Stevan and I ended up baking our bread over at my mother’s house (who also received a batch) and so there fore, no pictures. But alas, Google has saved the day with that:

The instructions are:

Day 1- Do nothing (this is the day you receive your yeast baby that will become that delicious goodness above)

Day 2- Mush the bag. Make sure you allow it to breathe by letting out the air inside as well.

Day 3- The same as above.

Day 4- The same as above.

Day 5- The same as above.

Day 6-  Add 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of sugar, and 1 cup of milk (you can add it in the bag or add the three cups into a bowl and also add your yeast, then back into the bag.) Mush some more.

Day 7- Mush the bag and allow it to breathe again.

Day 8- Mush some more.

Day 9- Mush mush mush.

Day 10- Mush and add  do the following:

1) Pour contents of bag into a non-metallic bowl.
2) Add 1 ½ cups flour and 1 ½ cups sugar and 1 ½ cups milk
3) Measure 4 separate batters of 1 cup each into 4 gallon freezer bags, keep one and give out the other 3 bags with a copy of the recipe and date of “DAY 1” written on the bag.
4) Preheat oven to 325 degrees
5) To the remaining batter add:
* 3 eggs
* 1 cup oil
* ½ cup milk
* 1 cup sugar
* 2 tsp. cinnamon
* ½ tsp. vanilla
* 1 ½ tsp. baking powder
* ½ tsp. salt
* 2 cups flour

* 1 large box instant vanilla pudding mix
6) Grease 2 large loaf pans and in a separate bowl, mix additional ½ cup of sugar and ½ tsp. of cinnamon and dust greased pans with half of the mixture.
7) Pour the batter evenly into the two loaf pans and sprinkle the remaining sugar/cinnamon mixture over the top.
8) Bake for 1 hour. Cool until bread loosens from the pan evenly (about 10 minutes), then turn out onto serving dish. Serve warm or cold.
**If you keep a starter for yourself, you will be baking every 10 days. The bread is very good and makes a good gift. Only Amish know how to create the starter, so if you give them all away, you will have to wait until someone gives one back to you. ENJOY!

--------

If you yourself would love to start this food chain letter (because that’s what it basically is), you can find a starter recipe here: All Recipes[dot] come Amish Starter.  I don’t quite know if it’s the actual recipe or if the one that is being passed around is actually centuries old live yeast. If you want to try, awesome and please let me know :)

Side note:

Once you have made the starter, you will consider it Day One, and thus ignore step 1 in this recipe and proceed with step 2. You can also freeze this starter in 1 cup measures for later use. Frozen starter will take at least 3 hours at room temperature to thaw before using.

30 Day Photo Challenge

A friend of mine, Rain from Rain's Embellishments, posted how she was going to start a challenge made by Sherri over at Oh So Lovely. Said challenge is a daily one. There is a list (below) where one takes a picture for that particular day. That's it.  I'll post mine tomorrow morning as right now I have a sleeping baby in my arms and it's way past due our bed time. See you then!
