The Greatest Flash Back Friday Ever!!

Dear Michael,

Today is your third birthday. We are proud to call you our son, my little man. You stole our hearts from the moment that we saw that "Pregnant" sign on that pee stick. We knew you were going to change our lives for ever, and we were right. Life with you has been so much fun, and yet so frustrating--but I wouldn't change it for the world. Mr. Poodle-man, you are my one true love (and Daddy would agree.) Life is about to turn another chapter in our lives as we are to start the real and official pre-school this coming fall. You are now a big boy and you show us every day.

You are the greatest gift I have ever received, my son. Life has many adventures in store for us and we cannot wait to ride this spiral with you. I love you. We love you. Happy Birthday my Pappas.

Weekends were made for fun.

Didn't 2013 just end and now we are entering Spring 2014? Time sure is going by rather quickly. So much so that birthdays are once again coming to a complete circle. Hubster already had his this past weekend and it was a blast! As usual, we did a PPV fight of one of the well known Boxers he loves and had dinner (made by his mom...tamales anyone?) Everyone came and had a blast. Yet again I forgot to snap some pictures. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Now the next birthday will be for the most beautiful little boy I know, and yes I am biased, my son Michael. He will be three in a matter of weeks and have yet to figure out what to do. I don't think we are doing anything big like a party or whatsoever, perhaps just take him out somewhere and have fun. We want to do something fun but small. See what my dilemma is?

A few weekends ago, we decided to take part of the special offer our local Children's Museum had. We basically paid for two tickets and one of us got in for free. It was a good deal for a good time (ha ha!) The museum had many areas for imagination play. One of the favorites (and we tried to steer clear from) was the train  table (he has one at home.) He did however love the art window. He loved painting the window and watching the Museum clerks hose it down. All I heard him say, "Wow! It's amazing!"  Fun I tell ya! Another area offered water play for the kids. There were sprinklers, hoses, toys, and tubes to let the water flow. It helped teaching Michael learn how water creates movement. This place is definitely one where I would recommend taking your child again. Definitely a repeat!

Happy Birthday Little Man + Throwback Thursday

Today is Throwback Thursday. Very appropriate since today is also a very special day for us--Michael turns two. What a great way to showcase his birthday than doing some mini flashbacks?! Yes, you read that right, he turns two today. I officially have a toddler who is two. Whoa! It still has not sunk in fully and I'm still trying to digest that idea. We aren't doing anything extravagant today since it's a weekday and we both work. Plus his party is set for Saturday, which means we get him to ourselves and it's also haircut time!

From my last few days of being preggo to Michael at the age of  4 months old.

These last two are his most recent (mainly the one with glasses.)

Not quite.

I am scared. I am anxious. I am nervous. I just want to get to the next step. I am going to be a little open here about my emotions. This is all in regards to waiting for a response for Michael’s Early Intervention appointment. I have already contacted our local program and have a received a letter stating that I have been given a therapist. So why am I anxious and such? That letter was sent over a month ago and the letter stated that I should receive another letter with information regarding an appointment—two weeks after the first letter.

I took action today and I called the therapist directly yesterday, but didn’t catch her at work. So, I called today and left a message early this morning. I haven’t been called back. I’ve already talked to his doctor, but Michael’s update appointment is in May. Seems too far for me. I really want to get this ball rolling and it’s so hard to do so when you are stuck in limbo.

I look at Michael and just observe his actions. I jot down little notes every day about his interactions with us. Does he listen? Not quite. Does he repeat words? Not quite. Is he learning new words? Not quite. Everything is not quite.  He has even regressed with eating. He was doing such an awesome job with self feeding with utensils but now all he wants to use are his hands. He throws tantrums when he gets frustrated. He grunts instead of telling me what he needs. He needs help. We need help.

Today…

To my dear Husband,

Today is your birthday. You have crossed over and have joined the Thirty Somethings like your wife. Welcome! This morning I asked you how does it feel to be thirty, you said, “Everything hurts.” Again, welcome!

Today I am reminded once again how wonderful it is to be blessed to have you for another year. Another beautiful year with you. This weekend has been a celebration for your life, and so far, the celebrations have not stopped. I am eagerly awaiting to take you out to lunch during your lunch break. Whoo!

Today, once again, I will thank your mother for raising such an intelligent,  talented, charming, and funny man who is now my husband. She raised you and your 9 other siblings on her own. That in itself deserves a medal, and look how you guys turned out! Crazy, but oh so wonderful.

Today, we celebrate! Today is a great day!

We love you.

…and the tree was happy.

As I cuddle with you for your daily nap, my heart starts to tell me to cherish these little moments. I’m going to miss holding you like I am doing so now. Holding your hand as you doze off while still in my arms will now just be a distant memory. Lately as I look through my Instagram pictures of you, I sigh because one day that is all I will have of your childhood. Now you are nearing your second birthday and it baffles me how quickly that time has passed.

April is nearing and chaos has once again creeped in into our home with plans for your birthday. The theme is set and details are starting to come about. Your birthday is a reminder to us of what our love has brought forth—you.

As I await for you to wake up from your nap, I eagerly walk towards the hallway where I meet you each time. Once you emerge from your very own bedroom you run up to “Mami!” and give me a tight hug all while your little smiley face is burned into my memory. Those are the routines I always look forward to.

Michael’s First Birthday

You know, I had this giant idea of what Michael’s First Birthday would totally be like. Did it happen that way? No. Did everyone attend? No. But you know what? All of those people who mattered did, and that is what is really important. I didn’t get to enjoy my son’s first birthday because I was so stressed out over every single detail and getting everything so perfect.  I should have just followed one of the Golden Rules in life—Keep It Simple Stupid. There are reasons why cliches are always around….because they are true!

So how did it go? According to everyone that did go (and by that I mean our usual group of friends and our immediate family members, which I should have just planned for like I normally do), it was a blast! We had cupcakes, and old fashion Carne Asada, jump houses, balloons, birthday songs, goodie bags, and a game of Apples to Apples. After all of the “grown-ups” left (and by that I mean our parents, ha ha!) the drinking commenced and that’s when we played Apples to Apples---twas fun! We even had a round or two in the bounce house which was loads of fun.  Maybe that was my lesson this weekend, to always remember that keeping it simple works!

The mommy <3

A year ago today (04.04)

Dear Michael,

A year ago today, I finally met that little person who would forever hold my heart. I finally met the one who had been tickling me from the inside for the past nine months. The one who taught me what real unconditional love truly is. I finally met you, my little bunny.

A year ago today, you were placed on my chest and for the first time, I knew why I was here. You were wailing when being weighed and checked out, but when they placed you on my chest, you knew. You knew I was your mommy and that I was forever yours. You were so tiny, and with your tiny hand, you held my finger.  I’ve been holding on to that day since then because that’s when I knew that everything would be alright in the world.

A year ago today, my life changed. Yes I know, I knew it was changing the day I found out you were coming, but when you finally arrived, it was official.  My life changed forever because from that moment on, there would forever be a little person who would always depend on me to keep him warm, happy, and safe. My life changed because it was no longer about me, but about you. I like my new life, thank you!

A year ago today,  I learned to stop and smell the roses. To cherish every little gesture, every little hug, every little smile, and every little giggle because I know that one day I will miss them. I now know what real happiness is. Like today, I was rocking you to sleep and you just weren’t ready, yet, you looked at me, and I looked at you--we both smiled. Those little moments will always be in my heart. I can’t wait for the rest of them

Love mommy,

Your biggest fan.

First Birthday.

In about 3 weeks, my little bunny turns 1. How did time go by so quickly? The other night I was just browsing through videos on my blackberry and I actually started to cry from nostalgia. Steve ended up joining me on the crying-fest. He said he was sad. I said, "Yes, I am sad too but I am much more excited to see what else he has in store for us." Then I began to confess how head-over-heels I am in love with Michael. I knew I could love, but this little man has shown me what true unconditional love truly is.

How did we go from this to this, in a year?
So now I am planning his First Birthday. Everyone we know wants to pitch in and help. Let me tell you, we are so blessed to have so many people in our lives that love us like they do. Now that I have brought up the party.....

This is my theme: I blame Pinterest since it's where I got my ideas. It's a "Yellow/Teal/Orange/Lime-Green/Purple" Monster Bash First Birthday Theme. Ha! Right? Everything will be color coordinated and I'm hoping that it will look fantastic. However, I would love to go overboard, but I must be realistic. Once I start doing the "crafting" for it, I'll post pictures a little at a time. Right now they are ideas in my head and am hoping that my ideas can meet reality. I'm really excited over this. This is my first party (aside from baby showers that I planned and hosted) where it's all for me/my baby. I can't wait!

10 Things I love About Michael--2

Mommy and Michael. <3

It's been about four months since I last posted a "10 Things I Love About Michael" post. Figured that many things have changed and many things have been discovered since then. So why not?
  •  I love that little high pitched squeal you do when you get excited. It makes me laugh and I try to do whatever it was to make you do it again.
  • I love how when you wake up before I do (and I'm now semi-asleep), you tap my face with your hand to wake me up.
  • I love how when we cuddle in bed, you extend your arm and touch my shoulder--you are wrapping your arms around me.
  • I love how you seem to cry out, "Ma!" when crying. I don't know if you are officially crying out for me or my name, but let's pretend that you are.
  • I love how now you are trying to crawl. That little humping motion you do is hilarious. "Ready. Set. ___"
  • I love how you KNOW who your grandparents are. You absolutely adore my parents and they you. Head butts are what you and my dad share.
  • I love how you will eat everything! No matter what solid I give you, you seem to like it.
  • I love how excited you get over Elmo singing. Especially over his theme song, "Elmo's World."
  • I love how you chase over Jambi in the walker. He has officially become your dog. Poor thing. Ha!
  • I love your determination. Once you want something, you let everyone and everything know about it.
Aside from my favorite things that I love about my little guy, I wanted to mention how excited I am that my birthday is around the corner. Yep. I turn thirty one years old and this time around, I get to have my little guy to blow the candles with. Last year, he was in my belly. I'm so excited over the many "First Holidays" we are getting to enjoy this year with Michael. All beginning with Easter and are now on our way to enjoying one of my favorite holidays--Halloween. We will be celebrating this year by going to the local zoo's Boo at the Zoo festivities. Quite possibly, we may even go trick-or-treating. Soon after, Thanksgiving. This Thanksgiving is a wee bit special for me. Last year, on that exact date (Nov. 24th), we found out that we were having a boy. So I get a bit nostalgic when I hear about this year's Thanksgiving. Christmas will be loads of fun, like every year, but this year will be that much more special with him. I cannot wait for this holiday season. <3

I'm an Auntie!!

Today, at 12:42pm, I became an Auntie for the very first time. Yes, I have about 11 nieces and nephews, but those were inherited to me via marriage. It's not the "same." My brother Carlos and his girl friend Haley delivered their first child--Gabriel Isaiah. He's beautiful. He weighs 10 and a half pounds and at 21 inches. He's such a big boy! I cannot wait for play dates with Michael. Both Haley and I are so ecstatic for the days ahead for us. Michael seems to share in the excitement today, and now is so pooped from it.

I've been anticipating this day since I found out that my brother was going to be a poppa. It was then when I realized that I was going to be an official aunt. It's still a bit surreal. I was the last one left without a "nephew" and when this week arrived, I tossed and turned with excitement. I really can't wait to get to know the little man!

Second chances and blessings.

Since the beginning of 2010, our worlds have gone through some sort of spiral. We've had major ups and downs. One of those downs included our whole world just crumbling down, but it brought a silver lining--our son. Since then, everything has been sort of like that cliche quote, "Crazy." If there was one word to describe my past birth year, that would be the word I would use.

Now that 2011 is coming to a close in the next few months, everything is being brought back up to perspective. A ton of  "what if's" surge and many, "I'm so glad I did this ...." roll into my head. From the loss of an angel that I desired, to a second chance of holding another. I'm so blessed that I have my monkey with me as I turn another year older. It's beautiful. Not just that, but after today, our world is changing. Good news was brought to us for another second chance, and that in itself is another blessing.

Second chances and blessings seem like what the theme is for these past two years. I wonder what the next two will hold for us once again--from the looks of it, it seems as if we are getting more blessings and second chances once more.

Flakey Breasts.

Earlier this week, after a nice hot shower, I discovered that my breasts are flaking. This is a totally new pregnancy symptom. I can't really seem to find anything on Google (or my Google-fu is failing me) on what it may exactly be. Since I "discovered" this new change, I have been adding Palmer's Cocoa Butter "Tummy Butter" on the under side of my breasts. It's the only area with the flakiness. Figured, so far no stretch marks (+1 for me!) and it's keeping belly soft and moist, it may work. Here's to hoping. All I can think of is that perhaps my breasts are growing again and so the skin is tightening and stretching, thus the flakiness. I don't know, but I don't like the fact that there's dead skin cells on my bras when I take them off. Not a fun look. Ha ha!

Questions.

As we all know, people are curious creatures. We are always asking questions, wanting to know more, even if it doesn't quite benefit us. We've all asked these questions from time to time, and even though they are expected, sometimes one gets baffled.

When you are a teenager, usually the questions you get are "How old are you?" "Are you dating anyone?" "Can you drive?" or even, "What college are you going to?" Then it stems off from there on the sort of questions you will get later on.

If you are dating someone, normally people ask "Is it serious?" If by any chance you answer this questions with a "Yes", you will get the following, "When are you two getting married?" One of the "eternal" and sometimes annoying question.

After said couple does decide to "jump the gun" or "tie the knot", then before the honeymoon stage is over, we all get the dreaded, "When will you have children?" or even "Are you guys trying to have children?" The questions never cease to stop. When we (and I mean my husband and I) were asked said questions we always answered with "If it happens it happens" in hopes that people would leave us alone. Did it happen, the question stopping, no, but us having children yes (well, in the process of it.)

Now that people have found out that we are expecting, the questions of "How far along are you?" and "When is your due date?" had commenced. Now by this time, I was quite ecstatic to answer, and I did. Then not long after that we got "Boy or Girl?", this one was a bit tricky since we didn't know yet--and ended up answering with "Don't know." It was an honest answer since we clearly didn't know. Soon after the gender was discovered, we began getting bombarded with "What names do you have?" or "I like this name, why don't you use it?" I never thought that picking a name would ever be so hard! Not only that, but when you come up with a name that you "may end up using" you more than likely get others suggesting names that they themselves liked. Granted, those names would be considered had they had any part of creating your unborn child--ha ha!

I'm sure that said questions won't ever stop. Especially since I can sense that the next set of questions are "Who will be the God-Parents?" I assure you people, we are thinking about these special people who we would love to have in our child's life to guide them through out his life. We ourselves are asking the necessary questions in order to come up with that answer for you. Questions such as "Who will love this child as if he were theirs?", "Who will help guide him become a great man both spiritually and emotionally?", and even "Who can we count on to help become the support system when we ourselves aren't enough?"

Don't think I am complaining about these questions. I can honestly say we aren't, however, I will say this:

These questions, whether welcomed or not, are what help us move on to the next step. So keep them coming, but be patient when we ourselves don't have the answer yet. Okay?

New Year, New Start.

Whoa! It's been since May of last year that I had last written in here. During that time, I wanted to switch over to Tumblr with the mindset that I would like it better. Although, I like the simplicity of it, it's not the same and I somehow keep coming back to Blogger. So I guess the best way to start, or should I say, restart this blog, is to just jump right in.

New year, new start. Or at least I hope that's how it goes because quite frankly, I could use a fresh start. I do know this for certain: one aspect of our lives will definitely be a new start--parenthood.

Right now we are 26 weeks and 3 days! I seem to always update at the "3day" mark of whatever week I am updating. Oh well, that's just how that goes. lol Back to what I was saying--we are 26 weeks, which means that by the end of next week, we will be officially OUT of the Second Trimester and entering the Third Trimester. Oh how exciting!

This is what thebump.com has to say:

Baby's now the size of an eggplant!
Baby's soaking up your antibodies, getting her immune system ready for life outside the womb. Eyes are forming, and she'll soon be practicing the blink...perfect for batting those freshly grown lashes.

That's pretty big if I say so myself! Mind you, I know he may only weigh 2lbs, but sometimes it feels like more! Speaking of weight, I have officially gained 15lbs all together! You have no idea how excited I am! It has taken me forever to get past the "10lb" mark and the nurses at my OB's office have been shaking their finger at me for not gaining weight. This isn't my fault, I swear! I've always been petite in size and my metabolism burns my food faster than I can ingest it. So imagine now having two tummies to feed--nearly impossible! I have a Dr.s appointment tomorrow, so I hope they share in the excitement that I have over the mere 5 lbs weight gain. Heck! If I didn't know better, I'm pretty confident that those 5lbs will vanish tomorrow and just make me feel like it was all one giant joke. *sigh*

Time sure is flying by quickly….

I just turned 30 yesterday. Was it memorable, not quite. However, I guess you can say that turning 30 or getting older isn’t always memorable. It’s just another notch on your belt, but I wish that the number doesn’t make me feel so old. I know people say “It’s just a number!” or “You don’t look a day past 25!”, but I don’t feel how I look. Granted, I’m glad I look so young and don’t look my age. That’s a gift in itself, but when I think of it, that’s when I get all down and think “Wow! Really?! I’m that old?”

Let’s get off the depressing page of getting older. We finally heard a heart beat last week. This is quite an exciting thing for us since we have gone about 17 weeks without hearing it. We’ve only seen it on screen flickering back at us, but was during week 8. Quite some time ago. Now you can officially say that I will be half way done come Saturday. Yep, I’ll be in my 5th month starting Saturday. That’s a feat in itself. I’m quite excited knowing that come Thanksgiving we will be able to find out what we are having. Not being able to know is driving me nuts! I keep referring to baby as “Hey you!” or “It”. I want to bond. No, wait, I need to bond. By knowing what we are having, it makes things that much more real to me. I don’t even feel pregnant. Every once in a while I feel a lil’ tap from Hey You or a fluttering sort of movement, but if weren’t for those, then I seriously wouldn’t think I was pregnant at all. So come on November 24th!! You aren’t that far away!

A bit of a scare....

I keep forgetting that moving from one place to another just blows. Tremendously. I have to figure out where everything is going to be placed. I have to fit everything from a two bedroom house and garage into a teeny bedroom. Not fun! However, the upside of this is that at least I won’t be home alone. I’m so glad that we made this move, especially after yesterday. I bled a bit (I know TMI), but it scared the daylights out of me. It was during a bathroom break, and as soon as I was done, I walked over to my bed and took the day off (from organizing the bedroom and closet.) I’m not allowed to do anything today either. This also resulted with a messy room. Now I have to wait until Monday since tomorrow is the last day that I can go to the house and finish up (and do a final clean.)

Like I said, I am so glad that we decided that our best bet was for me to be near my family in case of an emergency. I decided to wait it out and see if I bled some more before deciding to rush to the ER. Luckily it was just a one time spotting thing and we are okay, I hope. I’m going to take things slowly and watch what I do. Hopefully this works.

Mom's Birthday

Surprise went well……

I’m happy about that. :)
